Malpractice insurance

my school required us to have malpractice insurance all through school. mine expires in about 2 months. i'm no longer a student because i just graduated, so do i renew it but change the "registered nurse student" to just "registered nurse"? i didn't take the nclex yet. or do i wait to obtain malpractice insurance when i get a job? or do they provide it for you?

at most hospitals you are covered under their insurance, or so i've been told. if you haven't taken the nclex, you can't renew saying you are a registered nurse, because you aren't yet. i would wait until you are hired somewhere, there's no need for insurance when you aren't practicing. if you need your own you can get it then, or ask your new employer what their other nurses do.

As an experienced nurse and hospital employee I will tell you that hospital malpractice covers the HOSPITAL, not you. I do not see any need to get insurance till you incur the risk. I have mine thru my homeowner's insurance ($86/year). Once you have your license your name/address may be available to the public and you will get inundated with requests to buy insurance + a million other things. Good luck in your new career
