I decided to get my own malpractice insurance through NSO and it said since I'm a 1st year graduate I can get a half off discount and it would be a $47 annual premium. Is this all that I'd pay for coverage... Just the $47 a year? It seems like I'd have to pay some kind of monthly fee but of course, I dont know much about malpractice insurance... Enlighten me please?

That is correct. If you are insured within the first year after graduation, your rates are reduced. Rates are yearly, not monthly. Very small price to pay for peace of mind.
O wow. That's awesome. I wonder if I can still get the 1st year grad discount once I finish my RN in December... I finished with my LPN last December. That would save quite a bit of money.
And if it's really only the $40-some bucks a year that is wonderful. I know that's the half off discount but I'd rather pay $80 bucks a year rather than be ruined for getting sued for millions.

Small price to pay for peace of mind. Don't make a big deal to your employer about having a policy. It is none of their business. Keep the policy's existence to yourself. In a year the price will go up to about 90-100 dollars for a year. You pay in advance for a year's worth of coverage. Meanwhile, learn to follow policy and procedure and document, document, document. Best Wishes in your new career.
When upgrading to RN liability, you would not qualify for the 1st year discount for you would not be a "first time student" per their guidelines.
