Just looking for some opinions about malpractice insurance. Do most agencies, hospitals, etc. have adequate coverage? When is it best to get your own individual insurance?

Get your own. The hospital's insurance is never enough. Besides, they don't hire a lawyer for you, they hire a lawyer for the hospital. Get it as a student and don't tell anyone you have it until you have to use it.

Get your own. The facility may or may not cover you, and even if they do they will be looking out for their own interests, not yours.
In the current issue of Nursing 2006 there is an excellent article about nurse malpractice and what to do if you are sued.

Personally, I use Nurses Service Organization (NSO). Of course do your homework. I is important to have your own malpractice insurance and its also equally important NOT to advertise the fact.
Thanks for the information. I will check into it.
