hey UK nurses

the postie has been and my pack is here woohoo!:balloons:

they have changed the registration though, i will be a RNA (registered nurse - adult) so it seems that the general registration is a thing of the past and we are all specialised now . what a shame - quite fancied being a RGN.

still I AM ALMOST OFFICIAL, now instead of watching the postie i need to watch the internet like a hawk.

gives me an excuse to pop into here every hour on the hour though LOL

Hello! Congratulations!!! Ive just qualified too, the RNA thing confused me, although I am easily confused to be fair. Its such a weird feeling, I dont feel ready to be a nurse yet, and Ive got a few weeks off til I start my job and Im convinced Im gonna forget everything important! And dont even get me started on moving back home..... Ive already mentally spent my first months wages, well excitied!!!

cheers for that, its good to know i am not the only one easily confused!!!

good luck on the job i am sure you will be fine. i started work in january but on a HCA wages so to move up to qualified wages will be fab. (my overdraft is sooooo hungry)

i have been told that nursing is like passing your driving test, you dont really start learning until you have passed but i am finding that it is more like passing your test and being put in a rally!

heres to all us RNA's

p.s is it only us newbies that are RNA's or is all the RGNs changing too?

Well in kids we still have RSCNs (Registered Sick Children's Nurse) but I'm technically an RN©, you'll find there seems to be about two and half thousand different qualifications people have in practice but we all do the same thing :chuckle :lol2:

Congratulations as well, and you're right, it took me about 10 months post-registration to actually begin to feel like a grown up nurse rather than a student one - the course gives you the skills to learn and consolidate what you need and that's all people should expect from you - I've worked with countless managers on various projects and that's what they all say!

Specializes in med/surg.

I'm an old RGN and when I renewed my pin last year I've been classed as RN1

Specializes in Multiple.

That makes me feel so old! I am an old SRN - but I will be classified as RN1 also. I was one of the last ones to register with the General Nursing Council before it was disbanded... in those days we were paying a registration fee - supposedly for life... errm, I think not!

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

Congratulations to the new RNA's gosh that does sound wierd.:balloons:

I was an RGN then became an RN them an RN/RM I wonder what my RM will become then???

Specializes in med/surg.

I wish they'd never messed around with it all. A good general training was so nice, then after you could decide if you wanted to specialise & do the appropriate course safe in the knowledge that you had general training behind you. Not to mention the fact that at least I have the requisite hours to apply to work in the USA!

I don't want my general training to be lost in RNA sounds soooooooooo genetic:lol2:

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

RNA sounds like something out of the armed forces lol:lol2:
