i'm new here, but i've been googling my heart out and have ended up here for answers! i had earned my aas in medical assisting in 2006. i have never actually worked as a medical assistant, exept for my externship, since i graduated... i have 5 kids and am a stay at home mom. i've decided that i want to become a rn. that's what i always wanted to be and really don't know why i only did the ma for 2 years......anyway, my question is,,,,what kind of education do i need to become a rn if i already have a aas in medical assisting? thanks!

Your best bet is to get an appointment with a nursing school advisor. Some of your classes may count if they are the same ones required for the nursing program, but you need to check to make sure. You might also want to check online. Most nursing programs list their requirements on their website.

As far as I know, there are no MA to RN programs, so you'll need to find a nursing program. Hopefully some of your AAS general ed credits will transfer to a nursing program. If the school where you did your AAS has a nursing program, you might try it first to ensure maximum credit for prior classes. Good luck!

Specializes in ER.

I too am a CMA that went on to become an RN. The only things that transferred for me where my pre-reqs. Good luck to you!
