I would be VERY wary of any LVN to RN program that does NOT end up with a degree being awarded. This is from their catalog: "Students who choose the 30 unit option will not receive a certificate or degree from West Coast University and are not considered a graduate of the University." What this means, in very simple terms is that if you complete this program, and you get licensed, your California RN license will state "30 Unit Option" probably forever. You will NOT be a graduate of any nursing program so employers may not want to hire you because you will not be a program graduate and you will not hold an ADN/BSN as part of your initial RN licensure. Some employers state that applicants MUST have graduated from an accredited program, so you may have a very difficult time finding a job as an RN.

The other problem is that other states may not recognize the 30 Unit Option RN license from California so if you choose this path, you'll likely have nearly zero reciprocity.

I have an ADN and I'm an RN. My license will be recognized throughout the US as I hold a nursing degree stating I completed a Registered Nursing course of Study.

Personally, I'd rethink your choice because of the limitations placed on 30 unit option RNs.

At a CA community college: 30 units X $46 = $1380 plus books, supplies. How much are you paying to take the thirty units at WCU? Have you looked at other options before deciding to go this route?

It's 60,000 but no waiting list of any of that and it will work with my work schedule.

I know it's only valid in California but I don't think I'm going anywhere else. It's just that I have 2 jobs and WCU seems to be the only one that will work with my jobs schedule

Has anybody taken the LVN to RN 30 unit program in west coast university?

I don't think many people have as the first poster mentioned, you are awarded no degree. So that means you are stuck in CA forever. You never know what the future will bring & what may happen. I would never go to school & do something that would limit where I could live/work.

Maybe try googling reviews on the program...

Yeah, there was a time I thought that I wasn't going anywhere else (other than the state in which I started my nursing career and lived most of my adult life). I'm currently in the third state I never thought I'd end up living and working in. Fortunately, I was able to become licensed in each of those states without any difficulty.

And are you really saying that you'd rather spend $60k rather than, oh, say $2k because there's no waiting list and doesn't conflict with your work schedule? I will pretty much guarantee you right now that any nursing program will at some point conflict with your work schedule. Nursing programs always take up more time than the published class schedule suggests, and schedules get changed on short notice. And, while a limited number of people are able to get through nursing school while working full-time, two jobs plus nursing school sounds like an impossible task.

Best wishes for your journey!

Hi! does anyone know the schedule for the ADN program in American Career College in Los Angeles CA?

Have you called American Career College or looked at their website?

Yes, I called but they don't give that information over the phone. I would have to sign up for one of their info sessions..

Thanks
