no luck finding a job

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I are relocating to Covington, LA and I am STRUGGLING to find a job. I have been a nurse since 2017 with experience in adult ICU and PACU (all ages infant to elderly) at a major hospital in Louisiana. The first interview went really well. It was for a PACU position and when I called to thank the supervisor for the opportunity to interview she told me she "could not fill the position right now" and wanted to keep my application for the future. The next two jobs I applied for (pre-op and employee health) told me they wanted to seek candidates that would better fit the position. So now I am at a loss. I have applied to three more jobs at a hospital in Hammond because the commute is not too bad, but I did not think it would be this difficult to find a job when relocating! I have disclosed that we already have a place to live so that isn't a factor either. Any suggestions?

My suggestion to you, Babynurse, would be to expand your search to other areas. Any nursing job is better than no nursing job.

In 1991, I worked only two or three months at St. Anomaly's Health Center before I decided I wanted to work at Anomaly Mental Health Center.

Next month I will have worked at Wrongway Regional Medical Center for 16 years.

Good luck to you, Babynurse!

I echo this - fill out applications everywhere.

It looks like Covington is about an hour from New Orleans, depending, of course, upon what part of New Orleans we're discussing. An hour isn't a desirable commute, but it is doable. If you are working twelve hour shifts, you won't be commuting during the times of heaviest traffic, and if you're working nights, you'll be traveling "reverse commute." Both help to mitigate an hour long commute.

You may have to expend your job search to include New Orleans.

Have you figured out exactly where you're going to live? Does your partner have a job already? Is it possible to live near Covington but not IN Covington to make your commute easier? Do you know anyone in New Orleans who would let you sleep in their guest room two nights a week (or two days) so you don't have to make the commute working back-to-back 12s? If you're already working at a MAJOR hospital in Louisiana, is it in New Orleans, and can you keep your present job and choose where to live by picking a point halfway between your job and your partner's? Can you keep your present job and keep looking for a job in Covington while you go ahead and make the move?

I hope things work out for you.

I have no luck finding a hospital job either. Currently doing case management and I’m starting to not like it... need help
