from ltc to ob

Hi all,

After working for a year in LTC, I landed a great job as an OB tech. I feel that the transition is going to be dramatic, and I want to be prepared and be an asset to the floor. Apart from material covered in nursing school, I have no prior experience with OB. What do you suggest that I read up on? What skills will I be using, and what are the best ways to brush up on these? I am too afraid of calling my manager and asking. I dont want to be seen as a dork:p.

I REALLY need advice on how to be good.

BTW, LTC was so B***cy.

    I'm sorry, I'm confused? Are you a nurse or an nurse aid going to an OB tech position?

    From what I saw (keep in mind, just a small hospital in ohio) the ob techs were usually present for deliveries and made sure all the instruments were ready - they set up the field, they were the ones calling respiratory when they were needed, grabbing extra warm blankets, etc. I think from your other posts I saw you're an assistant - so you still won't be in a huge capacity as an OB tech, but I think it's great job (I'm hoping to get a job in L&D myself once out of RN school) and you'll still have the opportunity to learn a ton!
