LPN's in LTC

Featured Replies

What duties and responsibilities do LPN's have in a LTC facility when they work the night shift?

Chances are you will be the only nurse on your unit as there are many times only one nurse on a floor on nights, so you will be giving meds, doing treatments, assisting with recaps at end of months, taking care of any situations that arise with the residents at any particular time, calling MD's if needed, fielding phone calls, supervising CNA's and generally keeping things running. Variations of above duties may vary with facility however generally those are what you would do.

I presently just went back to LTC in pool position and our floors have 60 residents each. Lot of meds although less on nights but still busy towards morning.

Same as day shift. Meds, treatments, charting, restocking and refilling, etc...just different ratios of what you do on nights vs. days.
