Hello all,
I’m suppose to be starting lpn school in April and was hoping some of you can give me a little more insight. My first question is, do hospitals hire LPNs? I hear from a lot of people that LPNs work at nursing facility’s. However, every time I look up lpn hospital Job openings near me a lot of them pop up. Also are lpn to rn bridge programs hard to get into? As in are they competitive like rn schools? Do you see many male LPNs? Btw I live in Michigan and that’s where I plan on getting me licenses. And I’m sorry if these questions were already asked.
Thank you

I guess I’m just one of the odd ones not wanting to work in a hospital after I graduate ???... I plan to bridge at Jersey College afterwards because the campus near me just became accredited so look and see if there are any accredited campuses near you! Best of luck

The only hospital jobs I have seen for LPNs are in Long-Term Acute Care and in doctor's offices in hospitals. Prisons and home care agencies will also take LPNs. Don't overlook correctional nursing as a potential source of income; they pay quite well and would welcome a male nurse.
I'll be real with you: Many of the big, magnet hospitals will flat-out refuse an LPN. Even refuse you as a student nurse tech because you can't be hired there after graduation. This was my experience in LPN school. I worked in private duty throughout my LPN career and transitioned to RN. LPN-to-RN programs are not difficult to get into, as the pool of LPN candidates is much smaller than fresh recruits trying to go straight for their RN. You will also earn more while in school than your colleagues who will have to work as techs until they're licensed.
I was a male LPN and I have worked with a few male LPNs. We are generally good nurses at all levels. Good luck in your career!
