If you go to www.excelsior.edu, Excelsior will TELL YOU that College Network is NOT affiliated with them. Further, if you apply directly to Excelsior they will tell you what classses you will need.
You do NOT need a publishing company, which is what TCN is, to do Excelsior.
TCN is very expensive and will hold you to their contract.

How do you do the Excelsior thing without The College Network?
very easily. there is a large amount of help for ec students out there. ec gives you free content guides so you will know exactly what is on the test. you also can purchase practice test from ec which is similar to the real exams. i use lisa arends cd's that can be bought off ebay for a total of $12 and i also use in combination with the study guides, practice test and the cd's , a good used med-surg, maternal , peds and psych book. you can also buy the college network books used from e-bay for $40-50 dollars a piece. this will save you $300 a study guide. ec warns you against using these publishing companies because they are only after the bottom dollar and you can complete the program 100 times over without making a monthly payment to the college network. also check out the yahoo study groups they have files which contain very good study info.
