LPN to RN Prerequisites

Hello

I became an LPN in Sept'11 and am trying to bridge into UNBC. They say that you can get into the program if you graduated within a year or have 1700 hours.

I would like to apply for Sept'12 since I will qualify for the "within a year" stipulation. However, my prerequisites such as Biol, Chem, Engl, and Math are not current within 5 years (I took those courses in 1999!). However, in my former life I had been going to University for a biology degree, and have 4th year level courses under my belt. I stopped going to University in 2006 to have a family.

I'm wondering if I apply, would having my LPN certificate exempt me from having to take those prerequisites again? When applying for the LPN program, since I was in university 3 years prior, they did not ask me to retake those courses. I know that each school is individual, and that each applicant is looked at seperately. If it matters, I did graduate with a 4.25 GPA and earned an A+ in anatomy and physiology.

Any help would be appreciated!

Usually the prerequisite for doing an LPN-RN bridge is that you have your LPN.If you are not sure ask the school. They will be able to give you the most accurate answer.

Lori, out west is different. Here in AB, to apply to Athabasca you have to have the work experience. The other universities look at you almost like an off the street applicant and grant some credits.

BC? Looks like you play by their rules as well.

Lori- I will be calling the school tomorrow for clarification. Under the admission requirements, it's says that LPNs must meet all requirements of the nursing program (which those courses are). Hopefully having my LPN will suffice. Fiona- at UNBC they state either working 1700 hours, or graduating within a year. I do have 2 casual positions at the moment though. Thanks for the replies!!
