I am seriously considering going back to school to become an NP. My problem is that my GPA from my BSN program is only at 2.98. That was a long time ago and I have since grown up a lot... . Anyway, the FNP program is VERY competitive and am not sure if I can get in with my GPA so low. I was told by the school that I would have a good chance of getting into the Adult NP program instead since it is not as competitive. Any advice on this? Can I get an FNP certificate after I get my ANP? Thanks for any help!

Many schools have the option of getting a certificate in FNP, ANP, ACNP, etc..once you have your Master's in nursing. So that is an option. Or you can apply for the FNP program anyhow, if that is what you decide you want to go for right now, and see what happens. Did you have to take the GRE? If your GRE scores are good, and your interview goes well, and you have good recommendations, maybe it is still possible to get in now. Good luck.

I would take the GRE, even if the school doesn't require it. Then, if your score is good, you can include it and it will show motivation, scholarship, etc now. Good luck.

One option is to be very frank and honest in your essay where you address your past, present, and future potential. Grades are not the sole reason for admission. Best of luck to you!

Join the club. My GPA isn't exactly stellar (3.1) but I'm hopeful I will find a NP program somewhere.
