Love my new position!

3 months into case management myself and LOVE IT!

How did you all get into case managemnt. What areas of nursing did you work before CM? I'm curious- I have been thinking about it as a possibility, but all the posted positions want CM experience. How easy or difficult would it be for a hospital nurse to do? any feed beck would be appreciated

it wasn't that difficult for me. the hospital where i was hired was expanding their department and opened up a bunch of new positions. i worked for 12 years in the hospital as a bedside rn prior to this new position.

I know this is an older post, but I was wondering how you adapted and like your position as a case manager now? I start on Monday doing case and disease management for an insurance company. I am very excited to start and learn something new! -Kyle

I work in CM for a local insurance company and started out in DM here (3 years total in August). The positives of my job are getting to work at home, M-Fri 9-5, no nights/weekends/holidays, and the flexibility of being a salaried employee (and my company gives rather large bonuses each year!). The job itself is easy...but can be a little boring at times. It is a corporation, so as a nurse it is hard to adjust to the business bottom line, because when it comes down to it, it is all about money and profit around here. We have metrics you have to meet (sort of like telemarketing), and to be honest, I have seen nurses and whole departments get laid off, so I always work with that fear.

However the positives outweigh the negatives so here I am for now:)!! I just can't beat being at home with my family and not driving to work right now!

Awesome input rnsoccermom! I am eager to start and my pro/con list is definitely leaning toward CM just from what I have researched. What field were you in prior to CM? Are you located in the South? Thanks in advanced! :

Believe it or not I was in Peds ICU for 3 years, and ER for 5 months, and I only have a diploma in nursing...not the typical person they would hire! i think it was easier to get the job in DM and I spent 2 years there, and that helped me in getting a CM job. I am in Virginia.

Thats great experience, does the company cater toward peds? Do you think it will be difficult to get a clinical position after a year or so of doing CM? I got the job by the way! Start Monday, so excited :)
