Looking for right RN-BSN

Published

Hello, this is James.

I am looking for rn-bsn program.

And I want to listen to your opinions.

My situation is a bit unique. I finished ADN and started working at resp. stepdown unit.

After working for about a year, I had to stop practicing Nursing and took a break for 3 years. I want to get back to nursing but I decided to finish RN-BSN.

I am aware that many schools are changing their rn-bsn programs to online platform. I guess it's a trend. But in my case, I would prefer on site program because I have been away from practicing nursing for 3 years.

And in a long run, I am considering to go further and become NP in the future. I believe faculty's recommendation is needed to enter a competitive program. So I thought it might be beneficial for me to have person to person relationship with faculty.

Online program sounds great in terms of length of study and tuition wise. But I am currently in oversea and not able to practice Nursing. So if there is any practicum course in the program, I am not able to do so. That's also one of the reason why I am looking for offline course.

What do you guys think about getting BSN through online program? Does it make no difference for you to apply Master's program?

I would appreciate if you guys leave your thoughts on the issue. And would mean so much if you give me information which schools have good program. Thank you.

I earned my BSN online earlier this year. Now I'm enrolled in a master's program. I have not met anyone who completed a classroom, land-based RN-to-BSN completion program in a long time.

Thank you for your comment. Are you enrolled to become NP? Is your master also online program? would you be comfortable sharing which university you completed RN-BSN from?

I finished my RN to BSN online at Grand Canyon University...completed it all while out of the USA. When I get back to the USA, I plan on doing a "refresher" course as I have not practiced much in the past few years!

Keep in mind many of the program say 100% online..but there may be cases where they are not. GCU adviser told me, yep 100% online......but there was 1 class (luckily I did not have to do it) that did require going out into the community to gather info.....which I guess is still doable. I know a fair # of GCU RN to BSN graduates that are working on their masters.....

I'm enrolled in an online MSN program with a specialization in nursing education at Eastern New Mexico University. I earned my RN-to-BSN online through Western Governors University.

I have no interest in NP programs due to the lifestyle, the number of patients I'd have to see, and the fact that everyone and their mommas has enrolled in some type of NP program. NP salaries are dropping anecdotally...

So you are planning to change your career to teaching Nursing? That's cool. Thank you for your comment and input. I still think NP would be remain to have competitive salary although it depends on location.

BTW, did you have to do any clinical for your RN-BSN?

No, there was no clinical component. The program did have a community health practicum, but I did not need to go out in the community to complete it.

I just applied to UABs MSN FNP Program. But I have several coworkers who attended or are attending their RN-BSN Program and are also doing the MSN.

A lot of on-line programs require that you be actively working as an RN.

I am going through Grand Canyon University and I love it. Almost halfway done. They are 5 week classes go by super fast. They only require you have your RN license. There are group projects in almost every class but they're really simple
