Looking for a new grad program anywhere in Ohio

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for new grad programs anywhere in Ohio. I am from California, but I do have my Ohio RN license and zero experience. Seeing as there's no luck in California right now for new grads, I decided the best thing for me to do would be to go out of state. I've gone through the threads and saw that Promedica, Cleveland Clinic, and Ohio State University offer new grad programs. Google did not give me much results.

Does anyone know of any other hospitals or schools that have new grad programs? Or what hospitals are hiring new grads? I'm definitely willing to move anywhere in Ohio.

Also, what is the average pay? How is the job outlook going over there?

Thanks for the help!

Specializes in ICU, step down, dialysis.

I read online the other say that Mt Carmel in Columbus Ohio just posted for new grads.

Specializes in LTC, Wounds, Med/Surg, Tele, Triage.

MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland is a teaching hospital, level 1 trauma center, and offers a new grad nurse residency program. Perhaps contact HR for details. Here is a link to the organizational website. http://www.metrohealth.org/homepage.cfm I started at MH approx 10 years ago and am still going strong! Take care and best of luck to you!!! Fairly decent job market here in Cleveland!

Thank you guys!

@mudd68: So I am applying for the new grad program at MetroHealth Medical Center and in the application it asks for "minimum salary desired". Can you please advise as to what figure to put? I honestly have no idea what the starting salary is for new grads in Ohio. By the way, I have my BSN. Not sure though if there's a difference in pay for those with ADN or BSN. Thanks again!

Specializes in Cardiology.

I know someone who knows someone who works at MetroHealth MC and they said starting pay is $25.36/negotiable. MHMC is a union hospital.

Good to know it's unionized!

Specializes in MICU for 4 years, now PICU for 3 years!.

I work at Akron Children's and my manager just hired a slew of new grads... There are still many RN positions posted on our website. There isn't a "new grad program" per se, but I'm pretty sure all the units hire new grads with an extensive orientation.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PACU.

Metro is NOT unionized and pay is not negotiable. I don't know who told you that but it is not true. Housekeeping, radiology and a few other departments are union but nursing is not.

The "big" three in the area all have good new grad programs.

@NicuGal: What are those "big three" that you are referring to? Thanks!

Specializes in Cardiology.

Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth

Specializes in Cardiology.

My apologies. I was told by someone who knows a nurse that works there and that is what they told them.
