Looking for LPN/LVN programs

i am currently living outside the us and plan on returning in june of 2009. i would like to start an lpn/lvn program in september 2009 if possible. should i begin applications before i return or wait until june? also, i'm trying to decide between southern fl, houston, seattle or dc. does anyone have any ideas of which area has the best lpn/lvn programs?

If you are wanting to get into a program next fall, and not living in the states right now, it may be difficult, because any program that you apply for will want you to take a nursing entrance exam, and physical before they accept you. Those are usually offered in the winter and spring, before the fall term.

He is how my process to LPN school evolved:

Dec 07 -Took NET test

Feb 08 - Interviewed and took physical, updated immunizations etc.

April 08 - Found out I had been accepted

July 08 - Orientation

August 08 - Started Classes

So with that being said, you may want to look into finding a Spring or Fall 2010 class and apply soon as you get back in the states.

Hello annacrist.

I am in south Florida (Ft Lauderdale area) and can tell you that the Broward County school system offers LPN programs. These programs do not have a waiting list... they are first come, first served.

I just started the app process on mid Sept and in less than 2 weeks completed all the steps and received confirmation of acceptance for Jan 09.

The LPN programs are 1 year in length and cost approx $3200.

To get started, you should go contact your school of choice (there are three) and start the process:

1- Attend orientation and take the TABE test.

2- If TABE score is acceptable, meet with counselor and register for TEAS test.

3- Need to get a physical and updated immunization record

4- Pay for a background check and get fingerprinted.

5- Take and pass TEAS and finally... register for health care core class.

I was able to do everything in less than 2 weeks, but it may take other people more time. It may be possible to take the tests elsewhere and have them transferred to the school... definitely ask if this is a possibility.

If you are interested in south Florida, contact the schools and see about starting the process... just keep in mind that the cost of living in this area is ridiculously HIGH. :down:

one of your first lessons in nursing school is that a word like "best" is a relative term and has a different meaning to you than it does to me. what might be the best school for me might be totally wrong for you. what you need to be doing is going on the websites of the state boards of each of these states and getting lists of the schools in them that are near where you might end up living and asking people who might have gone to those schools what they are like. i just accessed the list of schools for the state of washington for another member, so you don't have to do that one.

you can link into the boards of nursing from allnurses. click on the arrow next to the "resources" tab above and you are on your way.
