Looking for info about UCF's program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi, I have applied for UCF's Fall 2011 Nursing program. I was looking for current students to let me know their impression of the program, instructors, clinical sites, stress level....etc.

I have heard that the clinicals are more in the community field than in the hospital. Is this true? What is the ratio of community vs. hospital.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I've also applied for the 2011 nursing program (basic). Good luck to us both!:yeah:

I have also applied for the same program...I can't wait to hear back from them! :)

Hey, good luck to you! If you don't mind my asking, what gpa did you apply with and how was your Teas score? I only know the minimums and can't judge where I am in the grand scheme of applicants. I have a 3.6, 87.1 on the Teas and 4.0 on my science prerequs.

Thanks! Your GPA and scores sound competitive. That 4.0 in your science pre-reqs will probably stand out to them. :) Are you currently a UCF student? I have a 3.84 overall GPA, I got a 90% (99th percentile) on the TEAs test, and I believe my science GPA is around a 3.6 or 3.7. I used to be pre-med (Micro and molecular bio degree) and took General Microbiology (MCB 3020)with Dr. White. Her class was insane and it was 5 credits. I got a B....so that was 5 credits of B. That's the only thing I'm worried about..I don't know if they take into consideration the higher difficulty level. Anyway, I can't wait to finally get a reply..there's too much suspense in waiting! :uhoh3:

Whoo, your scores are great! I have been accepted to UCF, but Fall would be my first semester if accepted. I agree about the wait, it is way too long!

I applied for UCF in the fall and to UNF's summer program and should hear from them in about 2 weeks on whether or not i have an interview. I have an overall GPA of 4.0 and i scored an 88.7% on the TEAS V(99th national / 97th program).

Wow, you guys are amazing! Great scores! I unfortunately messed around as a young college student back in the 90's, got one D and it has followed me. Since I've been back to school I have had straight A's, but one D keeps that gpa lower. Cest la vie.

You guys both have competitive scores....giving me a run for my money. Grrr! =] Anyway that is unfortunate about your D, Swarner5. I feel that if a certain number of years have passed, people should be allowed to petition bad grades. After all, we make mistakes or things happen in life. But anyway, best of luck to you all. HM2Doc, do you have a preference as to which school you would rather go to?

Which ever school will accept me is the one i will attend. I'm not big into personal preferences when it comes to a school, so as long as it has a respectable program then i'm game. Could care less about schools sports teams, mascots, clubs, awards, colors, popularity, etc. I just want to be a nurse....or should i say, murse.:coollook:

I graduated from the Accelerated program in August 2010. My overall impression of the program was positive. Stress level was high for most of us which was a switch for me as my stressometer usually runs near zero. Most of the lecture instructors are very good. There isn't much instructor choice as most courses have designated instructors. The instructors for community and Adult I clinicals are hit or miss. Some are very good while others are duds. The online courses are also a spin of the roulette wheel. There is some choice there and the better bets are with the instructors that also have lecture classes. The Adult 2 and practicum clinical instructors are solid.

The ratio of community clinicals to hospital clinicals is 2:5. The second community clinical seemed to be a waste and would have been more useful in another hospital setting. The community sites are primarily in the 'hood because that's where most community nursing takes place. Maintain your situational awareness accordingly. The hospital sites are Orlando Health and Florida Hospital with a few scattered Psych/Long Term Care sites thrown in.

Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me in on the details.
