how long does it take?

In my career as a nurse of over 35 years I have found it ususally takes 30 to 60 days for well known institutions to reply. Once you have been around people who know you will hire you on the spot. This takes about ten years. If a place who doesnt know you hires you too quickly you may have a rough road ahead as they may have management and personnel problems that will make your life miserable. At least two weeks is standard. Feel free to politely follow up after week and a half or so. Simply drop them an e-mail (perfectly acceptable for this and for sending thank you notes after the initial interview) reiterating how you enjoyed and appreciated the chance to interview and were looking to find out if there was anything else they required from you.

Background checks typically take 2-3 days. The fingerprints could take a few weeks unless they were electronic.

It took me three weeks to hear back about my orientation start date.

I had an interview on the 1st and the NM called me back this past friday the 11th to say all was good.. During the interview she told me it could take up to 10 days to get it back.. HR called me the same day to schedule my drug test and physical.. If they wanted a bg check, chances are good you will get the offer :)

I just had my fingerprints done electronically and was told I could not work (already offered the job, but I knew the director personally) for 2 weeks until fingerprint information came back. Today is 2 weeks and I work tomorrow.

Good luck! Sounds like you have it, but I know it is hard to wait. Places don't usually put you through background stuff unless they are interested.

I have only had two jobs, and both worked the same way. I got the job offer first a day or two after my interview(of course dependent on the fact everything checked out). I filled out all the paperwork prior to the interview while waiting. After getting the job I was scheduled to go for a drug test, and physical. The interview was on a Thursday, Job offer Friday, Drug test/Physical Wednesday, and everything was back the next Friday, started work on Monday.

i was been interview and they requested me to come back after 3 days and they ask me to fill up the authorization for background check. and they asked me all the question i wanna ask. after that they said they will give me a call once they receieve my background check and if everything is good i can start my orientation . i live in california and never live in any other states though i had my degree in BSN in foreign country . i wonder how long for them to run my background check.. am i hired? am still confused . and i also receive a call the same day which is she congratulate me the clinical manager that i was hired and she told me that i will be receiving a call from HR about the salary and benefits information but 2 days pass already and receive anything .. i dont know whats goin on...pls help

You will find that many hospitals take months before they decide to actually offer you a job. Many jobs that are advertised are actually frozen. I have always kept applying to different hospitals until I got an offer. Remember the first people you see at hospital are human relations personnel and that you will probably be asked to come in and see a department director usually an RN before you are hired. If you have proper licensure or work permits the location of your nursing school has very little influence on the hiring process. Be patient and call back if you think that will make you feel better. Myself, I usually just waited until they called me. Long term acute care hospitals generally speed the process up a little bit as they dont get as many applicants

Thank you Billy I appreciate the reply as a print model Whig is far from my profession but I want to work as a nurse I just received a call job offer as aesthetic nurse and I accepted it today for full time although am still waiting for the subacute to response with me. The girl I just talked to said am hired and they will just run ma background check if everything is good then I will start my orientation sounds promising but I haven't hold anything just the verbal should I wait . I wanna accept both the offer .
