London calling!

Hi!

I am a Montreal Nurse who has begun the NMC application process... I expect the package in near futur. I was wondering if there are any ex-patriots that experienced the waiting period. How long is it really? The woman at the NMC ( I was in London 2 wks ago) told me two months? How realistic is that? Mmm... As for salary... Can I live and enjoy social outings living in zone 1 or 2 on a Nurses wages? I have one and a half years of Nursing experience and am currently doing some Bachelor courses online. Is it safe to say that finding a nursing job in London is feasable for a overseas Nurse? Sorry about all the questions... I would appreciate any response! Cannot wait to be in London!!! :balloons:

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

Hi,

Welcome to all nurses :balloons: yes I am sure you will be able to enjoy life living in either zone1 or zone2, especially if you live in at the hospital's accomodation as they are great value for money. I know Guys and St thomas's accomodation costs around £270 per month

Anyway enjoy London it is fab there

Hi-

I am a US psych nurse with a BSN and 8 years of inpatient psych. After doing much research, it is clear to me that I can't even be considered for a RN3 without a year of "post-secondary" specialization in Psych. I guess that means I would need to get my masters degree. I am very sad about this because I really wanted to go to London for a year My love is psych nursing, so med/surg wouldn't cut it for me, I'm afraid (plus I am a bit out of practice!)

Question for you UK nurses. It sounds like starting Sep1 of this year, there is a mandatory 20 day supervisory period for all overseas nurses. Does one get paid for this? I have heard that the UNC decides were this placement will take place... do they assist with housing for this period if the nurse will work elsewhere when done. It sounds like the UK is pretty much ruled out for me, but I was just curious.

Hi!

I'm also a Canadian nurse (uottawa) and have sent out my application at the beginning of july for the uk. I was hoping it wouldn't take so long as I really want to move to London. Anyways, I was just hoping to hear about your experience and who knows, we might bump into each other one day in London!

By the way, which agency are you with? That is, if you chose to go that route...

Sincerely,

Susie RN
