Loans, Grants, Ect.. How Does One Pay

Does anyone have any info on grants, loans, ect. for CRNA programs? I heard the VA will be of some benefit. Thanks for the help. GC

My understanding is, you will not have to repay the grant.

You may take the unpopular route of getting a job to pay off some of your school loans in exchange for work.

The VA hospital program is through a school in TX. You have to work for three years after. you also must work a year prior to admission into the program.

Then the VA program in MN , I do not know much about.

My guess, you get a stipend while in the program, the tuition was $33,000 in 2003. It is ran by a Phd Director cannot remember her name.

The recruiter from the Army Reserve had a pretty nice plan. They have all visited our class. Had I been younger and single I would have considered. seriously.

i know a few who were looking at the army and airforce plans...but they spoke w/ other students who did sign up...and haven't seen a penny they were promised....now that is second hand...so i can't verify the validity...

otherwise...fill out your fafsa...for graduate school they will fully cover tuition (and sometimes even a little extra) with federal loans...which are at like a 2% interest right now!! i also got a perkins...which we don't have to pay back for a nursing field due to the nursing shortage....it doesn't take alot to get the money..and with the money you will make when you get out...it is no biggie..

there are alot of grants out there if you are willing to do your research and put the time and energy into them as many of them require some type of writing/essay...

athomas91..or anybody, any ideas where to look for these grants? I'll write some essays! I don't have any community service on my record and I don't have the top grades, but let me know if there's a good place to look for grants..thanks

Bikegurl I don't know if you are a current student, but the AANA gives out grants to current students. Your willingness to write a essay or two will serve you well.

Another place to look is to look at general grants for nursing education. Some will give them out for graduate school, and not just undergraduate work.

Usually the groups that staff the big hospitals in major cities are willing to sponsor.

depending upon where you are located and if willing to move to some other parts of the country. In the area I am currently in, three major hospitals have the sponsorship program. 45 minutes away there is another anesthesia group that CRNA's basically handle the same case complexities as mda's but crna are not on call or work week ends only if you opt for OB. Assignments there are given by rooms/suites, whatever case is assigned to that room it is yours to work with. You can request assistance if you are not comfortable with a particular case. The CRNA's within that group are mostly ex-military and very competent. I shadowed some of them. This group will handle the details with you over the phone, you just need to let them have your admission letter.Then, within my immediate vicinity there exist some disparities in cases handled between mda's and crna's. A sizable bunch of CRNA's at my job are just about to retire or they have been talking about it, so there will be a lot of openings. The compensation package in this area is about $15-25k/year lower than the national average

I myself have not signed with any of this groups, i have just questioned them about it. I am not even an srna yet, i do not start school until this August.

Be very careful what you sign, if and when you do, up hold it.
