Lipincott or Saunders?

Published

Hi guys I am a RN here in the Philippines and I want to pursue my career as a nurse in California. I haven't passed my application yet but I am starting my review at Kaplan right now. I know that it will take me about 4-6 months to receive my eligibility and another 1 month to receive my ATP. My review will last for only 3 monthhs which makes me worry that maybe when the NCLEX comes, i will forget all or maybe some of the most important things that I need to know because of that 3-4 months gap. May I just ask for for my additional knowledge or to make me really prepared for the NCLEX, which review material is better, Lipincott or Saunders? Which is easier to understand? Also what type of book should I buy, the comprehensive book or the question and answer ( w/ rationale) is enough?

it does not matter what book you are going to use.the best thing to do is go to a good review center and pray really hard.taking the nclex needs a lot of preparation.i myself will be taking that test in the next few months.i never bought a book because they have different rationales for just one question.if you really must read a book, ask your review center so they could advise you.

i used saunders comprehensive book for content review. i did 100 questions a day, kaplan qbank, a bit expensive but it was worth after all. you can make it. i passed nclex with my first try considering i have a 5 month old baby.i had to juggle everything. stick to one review material and do loads of questions. good luck.

my two cents....I passed NCLEX on my first take in just 75 questions....I did Saunders, Princeton, and Kaplan books and CDs....never got a chance to sit in a review center....

I just did 100 questions a day....everyday for four weeks...

FutureUSRN, you must be good. How did you make it? Is it because you really know all the questions or is it because you became familiar on the way NCLEX questions are being asked? :wink2:

hahahhaa., i guess his memory is good..

I am not really that good. I am just an average student. It is just that NCLEX is designed for average student like me.

I am not familiar with all the questions as I guessed most of them using my "nurse" intuition. It is not also about having good memory.

I would say practicing 100 questions a day helped me a lot to become familiar with NCLEX questions. During the exam, everything seems like automatic. Although I am guessing, I have that feeling that I am able to isolate the wrong answers from the right one.

IMHO, I think Saunders and Kaplan are the best. In my first try I used saunders, lipincott, the made easy series, mosby, and others, this time I stick to Saunders and Kaplan and I made it, thank God.
