Hello everyone!
I am a former senior nursing student of GTC's ADN program. I didn't pass my med math in my OB class by 1 question and had to leave the program. Now I have my sights set on another school and wanted to know what anyone else out there can tell me for my situation.
I exhausted my max attempts at GTC. You are allowed to drop for any reason with a W grade prior to deadlines and reapply, which I did. I didn't really need to and regret doing so, but I cannot dwell on it. My second go in the program I got to my 2nd year, 3rd semester with Pediatrics and OB. Their program policy is that, like most nursing programs, you take classes in a set block where dropping one class requries you to drop both (or all) at the same time even if you are performing really well in the other(s). That was my case in both of my attempts, leaving me with 4 Ws on my transcript. My GPA is still at a 3.67 before taking sociology, chem 1 and 2, statistics, and any other additional prereqs of GSU. My only grades lower than an A were in nursing so I'm sure completing any other prereqs will bump up my GPA even more.
That being said, here is my concern...
Since I am maxed out of entries to GTC, it paints me in a bad light to other schools. I will be applying as a transfer student, which has it's own specifics about eligibility to even apply to other programs. I took my Degree Works Unofficial Transcript with my 4 Ws to one of the nursing admin at Georgia Gwinnett's campus, and asked them what my chances are at acceptance. She told me that if I have either more than 1 F in a nursing course (which I don't because they are all Ws), or am unable to return to my previous institution, I am not eligibile to even apply because I am categorized as not in good academic standing with the school. So I went to GTC's main office and asked them if I was in good standing, because I withdrew but have a good GPA and can still register for regular courses at the campus. They agreed that I am in good standing. I went back to GGC, where she said my case is rather gray and complicated because she has never known of a school to penalize a student based on number of withdraws, when to be honest, that is exactly what GGC would be doing to me... I haven't failed a single nursing course according to my transcripts, though technically I withdrew from OB because according their syllabus I didn't meet the academic standards to pass the course since I scored an 85 on my med math (must have 90+). Failing the math automatically fails the course. So even with that, I would on one hand still be allowed to apply to GGC because it's only 1 F, but on the other hand am not able to return to the program because GTC only givves 1 readmission so I am uneligible :/
I am worried this will follow me to any program I try entering. I never failed a math exam (we have 1 each semester, but 2 with peds and OB) prior and did well in my classes. I made a B on a math exam and feel like its haunting me, like I am being equated to someone with felony charge for a crime I didn't commit.
Is there anyone out there in my situation who can give me guidance? All I want is to succeed, and I've heard people fail nursing school miserably, then graduate at another place. I've seen that other campuses post similar barring of applicants who cannot return to their programs, though I can't imagine why someone would keep trying the same program over and over and over.
Any advice I will appreciate! Thanks!
