12 lead EKG?

Is it necessary to take a 12 lead class before my interviews? I know basic and lethal arrhythmias well, but I was not sure if this would matter to those interviewing me. I thought it would be more important to work on getting my CCRN, but I know that 12 lead is a big component of CCRN. Any thoughts?

It all depends on where you are interviewing. Some schools are very casual with their interviews and only ask questions like "Why do you want to be a CRNA" and "WH would you make a good CRNA". I'm sure if you search this site you'll find info. regarding the interviews at the school your are interviewing at.

I think if you take the CCRN and score 100 or better then they are less likely to ask hard clinical questions. I took my CCRN close to my interview dates so it was like studying for two test at the same time, without having to study two different types of material. That process faired me well. I start CRNA school in four days.

All knowledge is worth having. You will use 12-lead interpretation in school and in your career as a CRNA. So if you have access to a class, I'd take it.

I think you should know how to identify and treat dysrhythmias and MIs from a 12 lead EKG. You should be able to identify the area of the infarction and expected symptoms, and all that jazz. You could take a hospital course or just look through a couple of resources and study on your own.

Good luck

I wasn't aware that the CCRN test was like GRE in that the schools have access to your score. I thought you either passed CCRN or not. Am I wrong?

LackeyRN,

there is a score at the end of the test and some of the schools i applied to wanted to see it. one of the schools had a cut off score. if you scored above 100 then the interview was just personal. that means that if u did not make it in then it was your fault, and they did not like you.

May I ask what schools wanted your score? I didn't realize my score would matter when I took the test. I just winged it and only got a 97. I had several questions about po cardiac med classes with 4+ syllables that I had never heard of (I worked in CTICU). It was bizzare. Just wondering if the schools I am applying to will ask for my score...
