Hello , I have been acepted to enter the rn program at lavc and I am almost done with all my health requirements.

I tested positive for my tb test and just had an Xray done. I do not know the results for it but I am freaking Out!!! what if it abnormal ..would they reject me from the rn program?

What it is worst is that I already gave my resignation letter at work since I have to quit my job in order to go to school.

Should I postpone quitting my job ?

do you think lavc will still take me if my xray shows positive ? which I dont think it would but WHO KNOWS>> my doctor is taking forever to get back to me..well at least it seems forever to me ..it was done just last friday.

Thanks...

To me this is close to violating TOS, as it is almost medical advice.

Read about what the test actually means. I do understand the fear you have, even if unfounded. There are many reasons for positive skin tests. It may mean exposure to TB. It may be response to some vaccinations you may have received.

Try to stay in today. If it were bad news I am sure that you would have gotten an immediate response. One of my favorite pieces of advice from Al-Anon: For today only, I will not live in fear.

How positive was positive?

Treatment recommendations are based on mm of induration.

A positive PPD indicates probable exposure to TB, and the CXR shows if there is disease going on. Have no idea what your CXR indicates, but working with many foreign nurses, I know there are a lot of positive reactors out there who have never had active TB

Remember that the positive TB (PPD) test means that you were possibly exposed to TB--it doesn't necessarily mean that you have an active TB infection. The x-ray will provide more info. And remember that positive PPDs can occur for various reasons that have nothing to do with TB, such as a history of BCG vaccine or treatment for bladder cancer.

I had a classmate who always had a positive PPD for reasons unknown; when it came time for annual testing, she'd have to bring in her most recent x-ray which did not show active disease.

As far as whether your school will accept/reject you based on an abnormal x-ray, that really is up to the school to decide. You will need to talk to them once your x-ray results come in.

As far as any questions you may have regarding what an abnormal/positive x-ray would mean for you, you will need to talk to your primary care provider as we can't offer medical advice here.

Best of luck.

I think you need to follow up with your PCP...there are false positives
