Lansing nurses:

Published

We are thinking about relocating our family to Lansing. I suppose I am looking for general info regarding hopital nursing in Lansing: where you work, neighborhoods you like and why, cool things to do with the kiddos - really anything : )

Any help/advice you could provide would be a help in this huge process.

Thanks in advance -

Sparrow has an excellent reputation. Prefer the East Lansing area for living over Lansing area.

Specializes in AGNP.

I can't give you any first hand experience about hospital nursing but I have lived in Lansing for the past few years while going to college. I wouldn't recommend living in the Lansing School District, they are having a lot of money problems (as are a lot of places) and just recently closed 5 or 6 elementary schools and desperately need to renovate/rebuild a couple of the high schools. A few of the area school districts that have a good reputation and are a very short drive (10-15) minutes from both of the hospitals are Dewitt, Holt, and Haslett. They are all 3 nice areas to live in and have good schools. East Lansing is a nice area but of course its largely a student population since that is where MSU is located, but I have also heard not so great things about the East Lansing school district.

I worked at Ingham Regional and like it very much. It's not as large as Sparrow therefore it tends to be a friendlier place. It is also the cardiac hospital in the area if you are interested in that field.

As for what area is good. I live in the Charlotte area which is nice. Homes / property tends to be higher priced if you go east of Lansing (E. Lsg, Okemos, etc.) That is why we chose to live in Charlotte ... we got more house and land for a lot less than we would have paid east.

Hope this helps.

Just wanted to tell you thanks for all the great information.

Now time will tell.
