I'm in the process of beginning work on the women's care unit at my local hospital working as a CNA I. Does anyone have any advice for me? I'd appreciate tips or stories about your experiences. I'm really excited and love babies with all my heart...i feel that they are all little angels.

Thanks and God Bless!!

What's going on guys? No advice for a CNA?

Surely there's something to say....

It's sad to see so many people read my post and not reply with SOMETHING!

Specializes in ICU.

Give it a day or so for reply we may not have any Ob/Gyn people on the board at the moment - if you are tired of waiting "subscribe" to the thread and an automatic email will be sent when someone replies.

Thanks. You have to forgive me. I'm a newbee. I'm out of school for Christmas break and since I'm not studying, i'm extremely bored. Sad huh? Just finished watching 7th heaven and guess I'm bored again.Heehee.

Thanks!!

having just had a baby, the CNA was by far the best of the best in our exclusive 4star hospital in Vail, Colorado. She truly cared. good luck !

not much I can say about CNA's in ob. WE dont' have them.

If this is what you want and the opportunity has presented itself, GO FOR IT and DO YOUR BEST. It's always good to try and follow a dream, see it through, to see if it's what you want.

I would love to have a CNA where I work; we do it all. Not a big enough floor, I guess.

In any event, best wishes!

Are you doing this at the Harris Regional in Sylva ? I loved it there, loved my doc, loved my nurses, My hubby loved that the nurses would show him how to change a diaper over and over even though he knew how. If thats where you will be youre in good company. Just be sure to ask for help whenever you need it and you'll be fine. Good Luck.

I work in a facility that cares for up to 26 couplets (mother and baby). We use cnas' to do vital signs, get water, change beds, get our surgical patients up. (c/s and btl). To assist with adls and to be those extra eyes on our patients. We are a very busy unit. Just as soon as we wheel a patient to their car-another is ready to take her place. Yes it is more fun to change a 7lb's diaper than a 170lb patient. Just don't be fooled into thinking that this will be an easy job. Good luck.

Our facility uses CNA's and gives on the job training, changing their ID to OBT 's. They are utilized in all area's, but their main job is inside the well baby nursery. Our facility would like to have all license available in all areas, but are still using the CNA's to help do any and all that is allowed under their job description. I truely value and love all our CNA/OBT's. My mother is a CNA and has been for about 28 years at the same facility. Now we both work in different departments, but sometimes when OBGYN is busy she will come and help, I love it. We have a CNA who has worked for 47 years in our NURSERY. If it wasn't for CNA's in our department the babies would probably never get dismissed (we can't figure out all the paper work they do)!!!!!!

Oh and always remember to keep it covered for a few seconds when changing a diaper (even on the girls):chuckle

Just remember also that having worked for 15 years in OBGYN, it isn't always a Norman Rockwell moment. There will be day's that will break your heart. Utilize your Chaplin or other areas of support when you feel like there is nothing left. The day you can not show emotion is the day for you to leave and move on?????
