Hello,
I am a french RN and have a green card. I live in PA. I was told that I have to pass the CGFNS before the NCLEX. I was also told that the CGFNS is quiet similar to the NCLEX. I bought the sudy material for the CGFNS and was planning to go to Kaplan school to study for the NCLEX. So here is my question: Since the NCLEX and CGFNS are similar, should I go to the Kaplan school before getting the CGFNS?
Thanks for any help.

I would prepare for CGFNS with their study guide and work thru all of the practise test.
It contains exactly that type of questions you will be asked and is therefor good for their exam.
If you need to review some topics I find Suanders review for NCLEX pretty good and you can also use that one for the NCLEX preparation later.
I'm not sure if you need the Kaplan at all but if you want to do this, do it after CGFNS.
Just my opinion.

CGFNS exam is slightly different than the NCLEX so I would just study using the booklet they should have given you

The preparation is completely different for both, so would do one at a time.
Do not do anything with NCLEX prep before you write the CGFNS exam.
For specifics about the NCLEX exam, please check out the NCLEX Forum that we have here under the student tab.
Before you do anything, check with them about endorsing. Just went and looked at their website again.
Yes, one needs to have written and passed the CGFNS exam for initial licensure, but there is no mention there of it needing to be written if one is going to endorse to there. I would verify it with them, but this means that you would be able to go for licensure thru another state and then just use the License by Endorsement process once you had the other license.
This will save you much grief if you can do it and I think that you can do it this way; unless you really wish to write the CGFNS exam.
