Kaplan Prep? NCSBN prep? What to do?

Hey ya'll! I graduate from nursing school in 7 weeks so its getting to be time to start thinking about preparing for the NCLEX. My school pushes HARD for us to take Kaplan and we have an employee of Kaplan who tutors the class several times in the last semester. Frankly, this tutoring has been useless, to say the least. I don't have $500 for Kaplan and I also don't WANT to take it. I am considering the prep course from NCSBN.

What did you guys do or what are going to do to prepare for boards?

hey! I graduate in May and I was thinking the same thing. Is Hurst or Kaplan really gonna be helpful to me; maybe it will and maybe it won't. However, I really don't want to spend $350-500 on a prep course and then fail. But I think it's a refund if you fail the NCLEX or something (but I don't want to fail the NCLEX). And, I don't want to take the NCLEX and pass and think to myself this prep was useless (however, some hospitals will reimburst you NCLEX and the prep course cost). So, I was actually considering doing the 3-week course for NCSBN (plus, I believe they were the actual creators of the NCLEX - i think, not completely sure). In addition, it's only $50 bucks. But, dont let me discourage you in any way. I've heard some pretty good reviews and it does help some people. Also, these are the resources I have for the NCLEX: LaCharity, Exam Cram, Saunders, NCLEX 4000, Lippincott's Q & A - Billings, Kaplan Strategies Book, Kaplan's Medication Book and a couple other books. Good Luck and Congrats for graduating in 7 weeks...very exciting :w00t:yet a little frightening! Adios!

I took the Kaplan course. We got a discount through school and the course ended up being $379. Everyone I know who took Kaplan passed the Nclex on the first try and said it was well worth the $$. Plus, Kaplan will give you your money back provided you take all the Qtrainers, go to all the classes, etc. I'm taking mine on Monday, so I will let you know if I pass!

NCSBN is the best I think out there. It looks the most like the NCLEX and its easy on your pockets.
