Kaplan FNP program

Hi Melissaa123,

I begin the Kaplan FNP August 2, 2016. Quite excited. Please could other current students come online and tell us what to expect :). Do you know if there s a facebook student kaplan fnp account out there?

It's nice to hear from someone else who is starting the program with me on August 3rd. I know 4 co-workers who have done this program and all of them say they are learning a ton of information and to stay structured so you don't fall behind in your studies. I look forward to having you in class.

I am happy that you know 4 people.

1) I know they have live 1 hour lectures per week, but that is all I know.

2) Do they give study guides, powerpoints, or audio lectures for exams?

3) Is there a skills lab that we have to attend?

4) Is there a facebook student account we can join and learn from others?

5) How stressful is the program? Are your colleagues able to work full time or did they drop to part time?

Please do you know the answers to my questions?

1.) I know the lectures are taped so you view them when you have time. Your class week starts wednesday till tuesday and i believe you have to post your discussion by Saturday.

2.) Besides textbooks, everything we need is online( not sure of lecture format) I have not heard of anyone having study guides just textbooks.

3.) There is a skills like environment online with some classes such as assessment

4.) The only facebook page I know of offhand is kaplan university, I haven't seen a specific FNP page.I think I saw a social media link on our student portal where you can interact with fellow classmates

5.) The classes themselves are stressful in the fact that you have to master time management skills to get all of the reading done and assignments. Some of them worked a .9 position( 12 hour shifts) and some worked .6 (12 hour shifts). Everyone was in agreement that if you didn't have to work while doing school that was the optimal plan. I work .6 and plan on keeping that schedule an will have to reevaluate when clinical time comes around. They suggested planning out your classes on a calendar to have as a visual guide and this made it easier to stay organized for assignment due dates.

I hope this helps, I now it can be nerve racking worrying about the unknown. I am already thinking about potential preceptors and clinical sites and haven't even started the program yet! I don't know what state you live in but if you live in Minnesota, according to my adviser kaplan will help you in finding preceptors if needed. I am looking at applying to Kaplan but are wary of their reputation. Is anyone concerned that they may have trouble getting a job due to perceived bias about Kaplan? For those enrolled, how are things going so far?

Things are going well....in My area they just like to hear you went to an accredited school and you passed the boards
