Kaiser interview

Hello everyone!

I am considering working for Kaiser, and understand they include "scenarios" as part of their interviewing process. Can anyone tell me about this kind of interview? Are the questions extremely specific, or just general in nature?

I currently work for Kaiser, if you have other options go with them. Kaiser hospitals have more people in charge than nurses working on the floor! Nobody communicates there! There are about 20 travel nurses in the dept i work in, and NONE of them have resigned or are thinking of doing so. I work nights, and you would think it would be less stressful? WRONG...

But the telephone interview isn't that bad. It's very long, about 45mins. They ask you about different medications and what they are used for. Also, some procedures and scenerios. It all goes through NurseFinders, a 3rd party company that does the interviews.

I agree with you Mandy! They are exteremly "top heavy" with administration. Regarding the travel nurse staff, we are offered large cash incentives to stick out our assignment at Kaiser and many of us did not have any idea what we were getting into once we got there.

Many of us will never go back, no matter how much they offer us. Unless you work a specialty unit, it's hell. Regarding the NurseFinders interview, I sat in front of my puter and just looked up the answers to a lot of the questions. It is also the agency Kaiser uses for travel and per diem. Great pay but in my opinion, this hospital group is just not worth jeopardizing my license over.

Is the OP talking about a travel position? I work for Kaiser as per diem, and I like my unit and the managers are flexible. It depends on which type of unit you work in. Ours is not primarily staffed with travelers...and our nurses are pretty happy.

I didn't find my interview to be stressful. Yes, there are scenarios asked, pretty specific about what you would do in a certain situation. Just be confident and you'll be fine.

I worked in the busiest Kaiser ER in Northern California and it was torture. I was a traveler and I would say the department was about half travelers half staff. While they only broke ratios once while I was there, the waiting room consistently had 20+ people waiting and the ER was usually half taken up by people waiting for beds upstairs. **sigh** A terrible experience. I am not sure if this is every Kaiser, but the way things were run just don't work.......I say go with your other options.

From your post I can see why there would be a high burn out rate for nurses. I assume they turn to travel nurses because the regular nurses go elsewhere, and it seems even some travel nurses dont want to return to Kaiser. I wonder is it a very much different scenerio in most acute hospitals today? I can only ask one more question, do you get an adequate orientation to Kaiser as a travel nurse? I am not an Rn but as an Lvn working for a registry, most places I have gone too, do not give much of an orientation, and since you are earning "top" pay, regular employees arent too eager to help you at times. Or they are so busy themselves they cant help you.
