I LOATHE my clinical instructor, she makes me stressed, sad, angry, depressed... because she talks down to everyone and makes you feel like a piece of dirt. She is so degrading with everything that comes out of her mouth. You cannot even ask a question without getting the biggest ATTITUDE. She plays favorites and so far us "not loved by her" students have not been able to do anything hands on such as discontinuing IVs, foleys, etc. This is our first clinical. AHHHHH I do not like this woman.
Thanks for listening, carry on :)

I know it might be difficult, but try to remind yourself that people can only make you feel bad if you let them. Remember that your healthy sense of self and determination are stronger than this woman's desire to belittle and degrade. You got where you are because you are STRONG:redpinkhe, she does what she does because she is small and the only way she can think to build herself up is by tearing other people down. Try not to fall into her trap...I am wishing you a lot of courage, patience and good mojo!
I wish I could be more help regarding your issue of not getting to do the skills with her...I'm not in NS yet so I have no good ideas in that regard, but I saw your post and my heart went out to you.:heartbeat
GOOD LUCK!

No one can make you feel stressed, sad, angry, or depressed unless you allow them to do so.
No other single person can make us feel a certain emotion. People behave in a certain manner, and we choose to have a negative or positive reaction to their behavior.
I'm sorry this is happening to you. Rest assured that some clinical instructors have suffered many professional and personal failures of their own, which shows in the way they treat their students.

All this figured out after only one clinical. Wow! How many more do you have to go with her?

I am in my third clinical rotation, and all of my instuctors so far have been so different as far as how they treat you. My theory instuctors also have all been different. Some treat you as an equal, while others belittle their students.
I had worked in the medical field for 12 years before I started nursing school, so I developed a thick skin. My advice to you is that as long as you know you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, and you are not doing anything wrong, let it go. You are only with this instructor for a short period of time, and then you will be on to the next instructor who may treat you totally different.
I get through the awful instrutors by reminding myself that I am there for me, I want to learn, I want to be a good nurse when I graduate, and that as long as I am proud of what I am accomplishing then that is all that matters.
