Just need a vent...

So last night at 11pm I got an email from the place I ordered my school uniforms from that my lab coat and pants are on back order. I called this morning. The shirt and lab coat should be in by Monday, my pants not until September 15! My clinicals start the 7th most likely, or the 14th. Thanks to MP nursing for having the same exact pants for maybe $2 more. Problem solved, right?

THEN I go to get my books. They have this package so we can get them cheaper. They ran out even though we were told they ordered for the amount of students in the program. Then the guy tells me it will only coat $20 more if I buy them separately. Ok, no big deal, right?

Wrong! It was really $200 more. I have no help from Uncle Sam. I can't pay $800 for books when I budgeted $600. So I ordered the package and I'm hoping and praying that they are in before Monday.

Come on FedEx!!!

I'm also hoping and praying I have my uniform by the time clinicals start.

Anyone else have some first year nursing issues they need to vent about?

I'm going into my second year and haven't faced any roadblocks this year (so far), but I just want you to know I feel your pain. First year there were so many issues from books to lab coats to clinical schedules. For me it has gotten a lot easier to juggle everything as the weeks go by. Hey, your semester can only go up from here. :)

I keep telling myself. I should've stayed in bed today though. I went to three stores to find college ruled paper, haha!

Let it out, let it out. I think many of us have similar funny/gut wrenching stories throughout our nursing school experiences. I can remember after I finished my first year we all knew that we would have a different color scrubs for the second year. I went the week of finals to the book store on campus and ordered the scrubs I needed for the next semester. The story was we could get a full set of scrubs (top and bottoms) for 25.00 if purchased through the campus bookstore. I kept getting the run around all summer.... The scrubs finally showed up the day before clinicals for my second year.

There was stress, sometimes a little verbal frustrations expressed openly, but in the end it worked out. I do understand your pain, but you will look back and laugh at these little set backs. It makes for good stories!!!!

Honestly, in my program, we don't even wear our lab coats. I don't know why they made us buy it. We had to wear it ONCE so far when we had a professional nursing day at the college and were required to come in in uniform with our lab coats. But for clinical no one wears their lab coat. Thank God our school logo is a patch that's sewn on, I will be taking to my sewing kit, take out the seam remover and re-re-purpose it for professional use.

Don't even get me started on that lab coat...
