Just hired at Trinity

U.S.A. North Dakota

Hello,

I just was offered a position at Trinity.

I'm coming from CA and would love to know more about the hospital and Minot in general.

thanks

Hello,

What a coincidence! I'm from California too and have been working for Trinity hospital for the last 4 weeks. I can't really give you a very accurate information about the facility because I'm new here and still learning their system. First make sure you land an apartment before moving here. Housing is ridiculously competitive. About the hospital.... I like their charting system, everything is computerized and paperless. They have a rotating shifts so one week you're on a day shift and the following week you're on nights. The hospital orientation lasted for two weeks and I felt like it was very repetitive and "useless" since I've learn majority of it from nursing school. Right now, I'm assigned with a wonderful supportive preceptor and I enjoyed working with her. Depending on which unit you'll be working on, the one-on-one preceptor lasts for 6-16 wks.

Thanks so much for the info.

I'm not sure I can afford to pay a deposit yet. Things have been pretty tight trying to find work in LA. I did hear there is some kind of relocation assistance and sign on bonus, is that true? I left a message for HR and I'm still waiting to hear from them.

I'm afraid I'll be in culture shock when I get there, I'm African American with dreadlocks so I'm preparing for people to be a little surprised when they see me as well.

I've been doing all these online searches of ND, I'm just not sure what to expect. I'm also trying to figure out if I should drive or take a plane. I would love any advice.

Thanks again

Yes, its true that they'll provide you with relocation assistance and sign-on bonus. Just fly here and have a professional mover move your car and belongings which the hospital will pay for as long as it is under the budget which is $5,000. I don't think it'll be a big cultural shock for you as it is for me. There are numerous African American around here believe it or not. Plus the air force base is just 13 miles away from downtown. I'm asian and I only probably saw 5 asians for the last 4 weeks.

Just curious...I am living in FL right now (student) but am thinking of applying to ND and SD hospitals because the unemployment rate in those states is low. I would be looking for a med/surg position.

How were you able to handle the interview process given the distances between ND and CA?

Thanks,

Mark

They actual called me and had the interview over the phone. She asked me clinical questions and behavioral questions, checked my references and in a few days called me back with an offer.

i have been working at trinity for 22 years and i know we would be happy to have you . minot is very welcoming. i came here 37 years ago and love it.

Hi Gina,

Some questions for you. how many months of snow do you guys get? What do you like most about your city and the hosp. you work at? what is the starting wage for a BSN without experience as opposed to one with a year's experience or more?

Thanks for your responses.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's such a big step to move so far away from home and start a new career.

Hi Tristar,

I know it was 2 years ago, but I was wondering how it went with the move to Minot, ND and working for Trinity St. Joseph? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You know, at the last minute a job came through in Los Angeles so I stayed out here.

Ok thank you Tristar.
