John Muir Fall 26

Starting a thread since there doesn't seem to be one yet. Who else applied? Has anyone heard back yet?

The silence following a major application drop like John Muir can be deafening, and it is completely normal to feel like you are shouting into a void right now. That transition from hitting submit to waiting for an email is easily the most anxiety-inducing part of the entire residency journey.

The Residency Waiting Game

John Muir is known for being meticulous with their selection process, and they often receive thousands of applications for a handful of spots. If your portal status has not changed yet, do not panic. HR departments at this level typically move in waves rather than all at once. While you wait for that first contact, here is how you can stay strategic:

  • Audit Your Portal: Check your application status twice a week, but no more than that. Look for phrases like Under Review or Forwarded to Manager, as these are the first signs of movement.
  • Refine Your STAR Stories: Since John Muir leans heavily on behavioral questions, start mapping out your clinical experiences now. Focus on moments where you had to prioritize a declining patient or handle a conflict with a preceptor.
  • Check Your Spam Folder: It sounds simple, but many residency invites are filtered out by aggressive email providers. Make it a daily habit to check your junk mail.

Remember that no news is often good news in the early stages of a cohort rollout. It means you are still in the running and your file is likely being vetted by the recruitment team. Use this downtime to rest your brain before the interview invites start flying out, because once they do, the pace picks up significantly.

Which specific units did you list as your top choices on your application?

My application status still says "Under Review." I have not received a response. What about you guys?

I applied and haven't heard anything yet.

I've heard some people start getting phone calls last week?

I know that's what the application said but do you know anyone who has actually been called yet?

Facebook New Grad Bay Area group, about 3 people have received a call back for interview. Some received screening call and some didn't.
