job interview

Published

Hi,

I just graduated and I have my first job interview in a week. The interview is for a NP position for a local hospitals outreach family care centers. I am really nervous. I asked how many will be interviewing me and was told there will be a panel of 4 interviewing me. Does any NPs have any advice or any ideas on what to expect? I have looked at all the web information on common interview questions, etc. but I can't find anything specific to the NP. Has anyone had to go through an interview like this? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi:

Initially, organizations recognize NP's potentially generate significant amounts of revenue, and definitely are cost effective care providers. I am also a new NP interviewing and received job offers, but overall feel this is a fascinating process ranging from informal team interviews, to more standard presentations.

Information is power, and individuals with information are able to review issues and influence decisions. Consider finding out before hand if possible, information such as call hours, collaborative practice arrangements, , and potential practice restriction covenants if you choose to leave the organization. Also potentially you may wish to have information on duties of physicians in your specialty, and comparatively how much you will be billed to help determine if compensation is equitable.

For me the process has been a wonderful learning experience. Also, I've been made aware of some potential inequties in the healthcare culture and feel as NP's we need definitely need to be assertive. Good luck in your search!
