Specializes in ER, ICU.

I need help I have had some bad luck lately. I graduated from nursing school in Dec 2008 and have now failed my boards 3x's. I have worked as an NCA for 9yrs 6 of which I worked in an ER and then worked 1yr in an ICU as an extern and GN. I have lost my job and did not renew my nca license because I didn't think I would need it when I graduated. But now I can't get a job as and NCA does anyone have any ideas for me? I really would like to work while I wait to take my boards again.

How long do you have to wait before retaking your boards? I'm not sure what a NCA is... Can't you apply for a nurse assistant position, lots of them do not require a licence, just experience and you appear to have that. I'm not sure if you can still work as an extern, as you have already graduated. Is there something preventing you from applying for a GN position elsewhere? Job postings do not say anything about boards, though it may come up in the interview. See what jobs you qualify for in the hospital setting and apply. Also, you need continue to study for your boards. Buy as many books as you can or attend a class. Practice those NCLEX questions as many times a week as possible. Best of luck.
