Jcaho

I'm sure answers are going to be generally the same, but what are everyone's thoughts on Jcaho visits? I for one am glad they are here so they can go and we are done with all this for 3 years. The bosses are crazy and the rules are in full force. Cleaning crews I have never seen before are making appearances, calling people back into work to correct mistakes in notes, over staffing the day shift and the list goes on, have all shown up this week. Shouldn't Jcaho see the place as it usually is? I know that when anyone is looked at, you put your best foot foward but to me this clearly shows that with current staffing and procedures, in order to "pass" we have to have extra staff with people dedicated to reviewing charts to correct mistakes that are not life threating but happen. For example calling back a nurse who forgot to write "RN" after her name . Basically I think the show that is being put on for Jcaho is silly and if Jcaho falls for it, that is even funnier.

The idea is good but the actual implementation is bad. Some of the requirements are downright silly and take time away from what's most important: the patient.

if everyone was doing what they should at all times we would not care about the surveyors being in the facility. We recently had a survey and everyone was told they were in the building. The surveyors found two nurses in a medication room, eating their lunch! Now that is plain stupid.

JCAHO can come anytime now. not just every three years. at least here in NY. We just had our audit from them, and our last one was last year. JCAHO can come at any time. we get a notice on our website. and then the mayhem happens! we passed, so thats all that matters!

Good luck!

My favorite is that all of the junk that normally litters the halls is magically gone for a few brief and shining moments. You can actually get a gurney down the hall. You are not banging in to things and then - it slowly drifts back.

jcaho, ha ... bucnh of nurses with worthless masters degrees that have'nt nursed in 20yrs, bunch of so so educators that would'nt know how to take care of a sick pt even if one bit them on their pencil pushin orifice..jcaho nazis suck..

I actually like JACHO inspections as it keeps the management on its toes. I don't feel like they are inspection me personally, but the facility itself. They at least get the management to get our floors moped and the area dusted. All o the suggestions or "Dings" that have had direct impact on my position have made management get us (direct care nurses) things we had been asking for, or got what we were wanting fixed. Jeff

I just love how so many things that are supposed to be "pro patient" end up being anti-nurse (read: more idiotic paperwork).

Wanna hear something funny? I live several states away, but ended up staying in a hotel right down the street from JCAHO headquarters last year. I just couldn't help myself. I actually went there with the intention of speaking to someone directly to give them a piece of my mind. But they were closed - I had forgotten it was a Saturday!

I absolutely LOVED our Joint Commission visit. My opinion is my standards for myself are far higher than JC's are. But JC's standards for the facility are far higher than their own are on a daily basis. So for one brief shining week, I can do my job and management actually has to do their job. I wish JC was visiting all the time!!!!

jcaho claims they are here for patient advocation, bullcrap... if those bean counters really want to affect patient care they need to confront patient nurse ratios.. for that is a real patient care issue that affects all patients, all other issues they push is just smoke and mirrors to me. it they ever want to win anytype of vindication in the eyes of the average joe nurse let them push and enforce propper and fair nurse patient ratios just as they enforce stupid abbreviations.
