I've changed my mind again

I now want to be a Peds nurse. This is about the 6th field I have "decided" on so far LOL. It's also good I no longer have a uterus, if I did, I would be trying to have another baby and I already have 4.

Can you tell I just started Peds/Ob

LOL Does anyone else do this, go in dead set on the kind of nurse you want to be (as in field wise) and once your in and exploring different areas constantly change it? Everyone just laughs at me now when I "decide and am sure this time!"

Let's see here...

So far I wanted to do hospice. Then I leaned towards Med-surg. Then I couldn't wait to be a peds nurse! I've never had a desire to be an OB nurse but I definitely wanted a baby for a few months there... I even interviewed somewhere for their psyche unit. Now I am all for critical care nursing.

Hmm, all of these desires following the same curriculum as my nursing school? Haha, I think what I'm trying to say is I think I'm in the same boat as you.

Med/Surg sucks.. (sorry, I'm speaking from experience). It's hard work, but I'll admit, I have learned a lot.

That being said, you are a mature adult and it sounds like you know what you want to do.

I would go for it. There is no hard and fast rule that says you have to start out in Med/Surg.

Anyway, no matter where you start, they will be fortunate to have someone as caring as you.:D

Best,

Diane

One of my CI's has been almost every type of nurse there is-started off as an LPN in LTC, went to med-surg, then icu, then er, peds, maternity, ccu, the burn unit, and like 5 other specialties before she became an instructor. She is one of the most brilliant people I've ever met-her knowledge base is so incredible because of all the different experiences she's had. That's one of the great things about nursing-you CAN change your mind :D

I'm planning on being a flight/trauma/ICU/pediatric oncology/hospice/forensic/CCU/wound care/nurse anesthetist/practitioner/midwife/instructor someday!

Thanks Chica:heartbeat:heartbeat

I hope I would have the strength to do it. I was tearing up today while listening to our guest speaker, a girl with CF and her mom speak. Also have a few times during lecture :|

I am not sure why my experience on Medical was so much different then Med/Surge but the whole vibe was just off for me on med/surge. You have to have a BSN to work at Childrens so that would have to wait until I get that and would be good to because they experience would help me get in.

I have mental health next semester, maybe I will be coming back saying that is my new choice LOL

My husband says out of all that I have said he thinks I would be great in Peds. I wonder though if he just thinks it will be less "hot" Dr's and Nurses around LOL

Yeah no matter what area I do I plan on trying many different areas and if there is one I just really like and miss I will probably go back to that. I would also love to be an instructor down the road in my career when I am more ready to leave bed side nursing. I would also like to eventually try public health nursing to like at community clinics or something like that.

Also want to do AmeriCorps but that is a lot less doable with 4 young kids. :p

We had a guest speaker at a NSNA meeting I think it was that was a flight nurse. The helicopters scare me or I would probably want to do that also HAHA
