IV question

Published

Hi Everyone,

I have a question I hope someone will be able to help me with.

Amikacin 500mg in 100ml D5W is to run over 1hour. What type of tubing would be best to use? Is there a reason why one size is better in this case than another.

I do thank you for any information you could provide.

I my experience all medications should be run in with micro drip tubing (60gtt). You have much better control that way.

is this a trick question, i mean use a secondary line right, no need for any special extra tubing, just ur regular ivac or if u wanna count drips for awhile that could work too

I would use regular pump tubing for the primary bag and hang the antibiotic using secondary tubing.

Thanks medicrnohio and everyone else for your responses. I saw this question in my travels and wasn't sure if it was a trick question myself.
