Does anybody know of an instruction site or manual
that would explain how an intravenous machine
works? (I don't know the proper name for it; I don't
know the make or model).
The bag of solution is above it, the tubing is attached to a clear
kind of cassette that slides in the front of the machine,
then there are buttons to select line A, or line B, and
a bunch of buttons, how to turn off the alarm, etc.
I don't know how to find the instructions (and watching
someone do it - isn't helping me to learn at this point).

You mean the IV infusion pump right?
This site: http://classes.kumc.edu/general/IVPump/IVSimulation.html
gives a general practice.
You should also find out what pump your hospital has and look that one specifically, they are all slightly different. Ultimately though you are selecting A or B (on some of them), Primary or secondary (on the one we use), the rate of infusion, and the volume to be infused. The buttons will be in different places, the order you enter things may be different, but that is the information the machine needs to know.
good luck
(you can also ask the person you are watching to slow down, or talk you through what they are doing)

you are referring to an iv pump and there are many brands that are made commercially. if you know the brand name (there will be a name plate on the back of the machine) you can probably go to the company website and get directions for the machine. i have some machine literature weblinks posted on this thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/1458776-post6.html
These are helpful.
I looked through the images and it looks quite a bit like this one:

Those are the Abbott Plum A+ Infusion Pump...same kind we use at my hospital.
This may give you an idea but it's all practice, practice, practice.

Thanks for the sites.
Why does the cassette need to be inverted?
