IV certification

I am pulling my hair out!!!

I am almost done with my RN, but I dont feel I was provided with enough IV training so I want to find somewhere where I can be trained or even better certified for IV training. Does anyone know who does this? Any community college, training center, ect.....

Thank you so much for any information!!!!

When I graduated many years ago, I had no IV experience. The hospital that I worked at had a new grad program. Part of the program was IV instruction, followed by spending a morning (one or two new grads at a time) in the pre-op area starting IV's there under the supervision of a nurse who was only there for us. We also had to have a certain number of "witnessed" successful sticks on our assigned floors before we were considered certified.Do you get Nursing Spectrum Magazine? I get the DC edition and there is an from Gannett Education/Perivascular Nurse Consultants for a venipuncture class...no Midwest ones though. Perhaps the Illinois edition would have different ones listed.

RNs are welcome to take IV certification courses, but while you would be getting a little practice in, the three required successful sticks to pass the course can hardly be considered to be substantial practice. Best way to get proficient with IVs is to work with them on the job on a regular basis.
