ITT Tech's New Program???

I was on the Oregon Board of Nursing page today and I saw that ITT Tech in Portland has been granted "initial approval" for an Associates in Nursing program!!! I called ITT to get more information, because it is not listed on their website for the Oregon campus, and haven't received any news back from them. Anyone know about ITT Tech's nursing programs in other states???

im thinking of going to itt in fort myers fl. any advice

just go with it, its small but there's no waiting list they take student every quarter for the nursing.

I'm looking at starting ITT nursing program. How are you liking it?

Brittney, where are you located?

I'd be going to the one in Portland, oregon

Wanted to make a few points to everyone. I am not sure why there is so much negative feelings toward ITT Tech. I saw a poster make statement that "ITT Tech grads must pass the same tests to become certified and receive their RN license as everyone else" and that is totally true. I saw another poster state "they had a friend in recruiting that stated employers say stay away from ITT Tech grads or Corporate school grads" now I am know that one is not true. I own a national executive recruiting firm and in the 20 years I have owned my company, and been doing recruiting in the medical field, not once has any of my client companies ever said to me or any of my recruiters, I need an RN but not from ITT Tech or a corporate school. They are concerned with having the needed license (RN,LPN) and experience of the applicant, period.

Yes, there may be certain companies that will not consider Corporate school applicants, but by and large they are welcomed just as any other Nurse. In addition many have questioned why go to such a school it is so much more expensive. Plain and simple answer there. They just don't want to or cannot wait to get into traditional college programs or community college programs with waiting lists of over 2 to 3 years. One poster stated these people go to Corporate college's because they don't want to face going to a University. Wrong again. Many have high GPA'S in high school and have previously attended college with exceptional grades. I spoke with an applicant the other day that was a grad from ITT Tech's Nursing program and she had switched schools from a major University with a 3.9 GPA, and I had her 5 job offers the next day from large hospitals.

I just think that before you go thinking a program is not up to par because of what a few people may say or think, you should be more open minded and weigh all the facts.

Everyone have a great day!!!!!!

As with any school, do your homework and call your Board of Nursing. ITT is based in Indiana so you might want to call the Indiana Board of Nursing. Before you commit to any school or any field of study, do your homework. Don't depend on faceless people (like me) on the internet. For me, ITT was great, but I know a girl who hated it. We're each different and have our own needs and learning styles.:specs::sofahider

No one but you can say if any school is good for you. ITT Tech is very expensive (it's associate degree costs more than my bachelors degree did), and it's credits are not nearly as readily accepted as transfer credits by other schools when compared to a community college or state university (which could mean that if you were to continue your education, you'd have to take --and pay for-- a lot of general education classes again). It is easier to get into though. Only you can balance out the negatives and positives.

Is there a reason you're leaning toward ITT Tech vs. a Community College?

Community colleges in missouri don't offer any nursing programs . Only medical assistant which is a waste of time to me .

I don't know anything about MO, but (and you may have this already) here is a link to a listing of all the PN and RN programs in your state. There do seem to be some community colleges on the RN list.

I hope you can find the answer that best suits your needs.

Hey Awesome to read your post. Would you mind emailing me about your program. I was accepted for the Mar 19 class, and wanted to ask you some questions about the program, the clinicals etc...

:nurse: I'm in the ITT program in Oklahoma City. I was in another nursing program in this city and making good grades, but the hatefulness and punitive attitude of the faculty put so much pressure on us, some of us couldn't take the stress. They treated us and accused us as if we were all cheaters. They watched our every move and tracked all our comments on the computers as that was the only way to communicate with the faculty. In lab, we had students teaching students. The school was terribly disorganized. The experience was so awful I had a nervous breakdown and almost committed suicide.

The ITT classes meet once a week, but we've had med/surg clinicals twice a week, giving us more time on the floor, which is great! We read just as much in this program as I did in the other, but the teachers are more helpful and are happy to spend time with us one-on-one. We also aren't required to buy extra books to supplement (as we were in the other school). We don't have a long list of movies to watch on our days off (as I did in the other school). Our care plans aren't 20+ pages long and they're not critical of our care plans, but rather, sit down with us and talk about them. I love that I have access to my teachers anytime I need them. They give us their personal cell phone numbers on the first day of class.

The classes are small enough that the teachers get to know us as humans: our strengths and weaknesses. They work with us and care about us. The program chairman knows each of us by name.

Yes, it's horribly expensive, but I plan to be able to pay off the loan once I become employed. So far, we've left good impressions at the hospitals we've worked in. The nurses in one of the hospitals begged me to apply for a job, which means ITT has taught me effectively what I need to know to become a nurse.

Our credits transfer only to the University of Phoenix, which, I heard, is in trouble for illegal financial dealings (I don't know).

The HESI is a piece of cake. Just review your anatomy/physiology books before you take it and you'll do fine. HESI tests are given periodically throughout the program to make sure we're on track.

The entire program is 27 months (or 9 quarters) with little time off. No summer breaks. The order of classes by quarter is:

1. Introduction to Nursing

2. Pharmacology and Fundamentals of Nursing

3. Med/Surg I + clinical

4. Med/Surg II + clinical

5. Gerontology + clinical

6. Mental Health + clinical

7. OB/GYN + clinical

8. Peds + clinical

9. Leadership (don't know about clinical)

Of course it's wise to check out every aspect of a program before you commit.

Hope this helps you in whatever decision you make.

Is everything included in the tuition like uniforms and etc?
