I'm a military wife and we just got stationed in southern california (orange county) from colorado. I already have received my CA license and I am not a new grad, why am I having such a hard time finding a job!?!? I have filled out what seems like hundreds of applications and have yet to receive one call back!! Being an RN with experience, I don't feel like it should be this difficult! Does anyone have any advice?

If you spend some time reading some of the many threads and posts on this site you will see that you are not the only one with this problem. It is not an easy task to find employment in CA at this time.

I think california is flooded with new grad RN's and experienced RN's and this economy is not making things easy for them. I also applied to many hospitals but had no luck untill I started going to job fairs and making contacts. Only and only contacts help at this time. Mostly hospital employees want their own friends and family to get jobs and it gets difficult for outside people.
I dont think high GPA or Sigma theta tau membership, your nursing school awards or experience matter . Its your attitude and you have to stick your face out and let them know that physically you exist and not like a dumped piece of paper ( your resume) in their trash can. I literally saw some nurse recruiter in a job fair dumping people's resume in big trash behind their desks.

"Chase them intelligently."
CA is a hard place to get a job right now. I think the only reason I got mine is that RIGHT after I submitted my application and resume online I called the recruiter and asked some questions and made my genuine interest known. She said that she'd send it to the correct manager right away. I got a call from the manager later that day and had my job after my interview a week later.
Another thing that you need to do when getting a job in CA is emphasize your connections with California. A lot of people come here and then realize it's not what they want or expected and then move back after not a long time. When you get an interview make sure you bring up that you are here for reasons other than warm beaches and you won't be moving back after you see the price of rent.
