$10,000 for a year of school is outrageous! That option is out for me!

I'm thinking that some employers (nursing homes & snf's?) must be sponsoring students. How else could people pay for this? Even so, I'm loathe to sign any commitments with employers to get into a nursing program. I'll move to attend another program before I do that. But that's me.

Thing is, I know it works well for many many students. They love it and they get their tuition and books paid for. I actually know it's probably a smart way to go. But I'm too much of a control freak. I actually feel smothered and panicky at the thought of signing a contract and I feel trapped at the thought. :uhoh21: I know this is not exactly rational but I can't help it.

IMO, [hope I don't offend anyone here doing this] is that they're mainly concerned about the cost right now, and it's cool that these places will pay for it, but they're not thinking about having to work for that place after school. Maybe they are, but that's my opinion. I know I couldn't do it, but more power to the ones who can.

I actually wish I could talk myself into it. It works for these students. I would do it if that was my ONLY ONLY way of getting into nursing school. They probably like the employer and feel good about it.

I would hope so. If it was my last option to get into NS, I would do it too.

It doesn't work for a lot of people; hence the long waits at PCC.

Some people don't mind signing contracts or doing the LPN. Some people just want to be a nurse ASAP. I don't know what I would do if faced in a similiar situation. When I applied to NS I got in the very next semester. I was lucky. It all depends on what your personal goals are.

Be a nurse-don't mind the restrictions or wait. (apply to PCC/UofA)

Be a nurse ASAP. (try the TMC/carondelet option)

Be a nurse without having to pay a lot of money. (LPN w/nursing home sponser)

Yes. I know someone who graduated from UofA's accelerated program. She's taking out a home equity loan to repay her 28k tuition. She wants out of there NOW.

So, about the TMC thing. You obviously have to be a employee there right? Is there a time frame that you have to be an employee for?

Yep, you gotta be an employee. I think they want you to work there a year before you can apply, and then stay for 2 years when you graduate. But, like I said earlier, I know of a few techs who got accepted within 6 months.

Hey, I've been considering applying to the accelerated program at UofA. All the advertising I've read about it makes the program sound fabulous. What's the real story? What hospital in Tucson was she contracted at so that if I do end up in the program I don't sign up for the same place?
