Is Nursing a Profession

I am working on a 20 page paper for my masters degree in nursing administration. This paper is a concept analysis and the concept I am exploring is profession. The question is not necessarily if nursing is a profession, but how nursing and profession have evolved and are related to each other. The question in the title will hopefully elicit responses I can use. I did not do a search, concept papers are suppose to be at a moment in time. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the references, I appreciate them and have already found one (thanks NRSKaren) I will add as an antecedent, funny I thought I had done an exhaustive lit search. Anyway there is a lot of stuff out there and I apprecitate more you can point me to. But I am intrerested in your current opinions as well. I promise the education level will be a small part of my paper. The education level must be addressed, but is not the defining characteristic.
