Hi everyone!
Well, I am very interested in moving to Ireland (have a boyfriend over there...we met while I was living in Australia, but I am a U.S. citizen) Anyways, I would like to move over there this september and stay for a year, then return here for nursing school and get my 2 year degree. I've found out that an American citizen getting a work permit in Ireland is expensive and difficult! Are there any hospitals (since i know medical workers are needed) that would hire someone who is not a nurse but would like to become one for easier access to a work permit? Or does anyone know of any employers who frequently hire foreign workers from abroad?
Thanks!
Melissa

Hi Melissa - are we talking Northern Ireland or Southern Ireland. They are run very differently and different rules apply.
For Southern Ireland try http://www.nursingboard.ie/ and for Northern Ireland www.nmc-uk.org and read the booklet entitled 'registering as a nurse or midwife in the UK August 2005.
Good luck with your journey

You are going to have issues with either location since you do not have your RN yet. Much, much easier with that, but then that also takes about 18 months before everything is said and done and you an legally work.
Sorry, but you ar not going to have an easy time of it, unless you have some type of specialty training already that they need.
