Hello fellow Nurses!

So after 13 years as an ER nurse, I feel it's time to move on. I have become increasingly interested in CM/UM. So, as luck would have it, I have an interview on Wednesday at my current hospital for a CM position.., and one on Friday for a Nurse Medical Management position @ WellPoint! I am curious of the pro/cons of CM in a hospital setting vs Medical management in a managed care setting.

Anyone working @ WellPoint in a Nurse Medical management position? How is the pay? What's a typical day like? Any interview pointers?

Thanks I'm advance!

I'll be surprised if anyone has worked for both and responds to this thread with the exact pros and cons specifically answering your questions. On the other hand, many people on here have worked in one or the other environment and can tell you the pros and cons of the one he/she knows of... with that said, you may want to just read many of the threads regarding insurance companies/agencies and/or hospital settings.

I cannot stand the politics of bedside nursing. I am a former ED Nurse too... I love working in CM/UR and I do not plan to return to bedside unless I have absolutely no choice. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply! I have since interviewed for both jobs, was offered & accepted the UM position @ WellPoint! I'm very excited, tho I have no idea what to expect!!

How was the interview at WellPoint? What kind of questions did they ask? I applied for the same position at WellPoint; I'm a CCU nurse with six yrs experience ready to leave the bedside because of chronic knee issues that just don't seem to be getting better. I'm excited for a change!!

They really only asked a few questions, the basics like what would your coworkers/boss say about you? Tell if a time you had a conflict at work & how you delt with it. It was very laid back. What office did you apply to?

I applied to one in Newbury Park. There are three positions I applied to, I'm hoping to hear something back soon! I'm pretty nervous because I haven't interviewed for a position outside of the hospital I work at in 6 1/2 years!!

Good luck!!!!
