Is there anything you guys think could help me stand out from the rest of the group? I know im not certified yet...do you think I should tell them Im willing to accept less pay??

I just REALLY need a job!

Tell them about your experience in caregiving, & also tell them about some of your positive qualities that will help you in being a good CNA. Good luck! :)

Yes, do tell them about your experience helping your family. No, do not tell them you will work for less money!

Be attentive at the interview, be on time, dress well, ask simple straightforward questions and you will do great!

Best of luck to you and let us know how you did. :wink2:

Where is this "will work for less money" stuff coming from lately?

Do not offer to work for less money. You don't get a whole lot of money to begin with, and you'll be working just as hard as your coworkers.

CNA work is entry-level stuff with an hourly wage and pretty much no opportunity for advancement. You don't negotiate salaries. They start you off at whatever they're starting everybody else off at.

I dont know. I guess im kind of desperate..Ive been out of work for so long and Im trying to get into nursing..

I dont even have a CNA certificate...Im applying as a caregiver so im hoping to stand apart from the other CNA's\..

I spent an HOUR at there website last night getting all the info. on the type of person that they want and some history on the place..

I really hope I can get this!

only a couple more hours!

I understand where you're coming from! I was in the same boat too.. I just wanted a job sooo bad I was willing to work for any salary..even if it was just minimum wage. But anyways are there any assisted living facilities near you? Because some of the facilites in my area (including the one where i work) do not require that we be licensed as CNA's, its just a plus. And we're called caregivers at our facility too! Our executive director says is sounds warmer & caring lol.

OK IM BACK!! I think my interview went great! I presented myself very well against the others i feel. Honestly I think I did better than everyone but there were two women who did have their CNA certificate that were there..and I feel like they are going to get hired by default (although they didnt speak up very much)

But I got a chance to show my personality and tell them my accomplishments and skills.. and the great thing is at the end when the hiring manager was talking about what she was looking for in an applicant..she said all the qualities I said about myself!! I hope thats good.. oh and I also told them how I cared for my grandfather who had dementia and they said they have a whole dementia section and the want someone who has dealt with someone like that before(me?) :-)

well.. I really really really really really am hoping that I got this job..it would be soooo PERFECT! they train you to get your CNA and everything!

now the wait....

I really hope you get the job ! The ALF I work for is just for those with Alzheimers & Dementia. I really love it! And since you have experience already with dementia, that sets you apart from the others imo :) Good luck & keep us informed on how it goes !

Thanks so much for your support!

I actually did get the job!!! YAAYY!!!! Im so happy! I cant believe I got it!!

and I think they train you to get your CNA as well.. Im not entirely sure but on their website it says I have to undergo 50 hours of training..so maybe thats what that is??

ANYWAYS!! Im SOOO excited!!

only ONE problem!! My husband just got a job opportunity a hour away.. and I feel he may get it! but if he does ill probably just have to commute because CNA jobs are hard to come by out here in california

Congratulations on the new job!! I work in a dementia/memory care unit and I like it. There is never a dull moment and my sweet residents keep me on my toes ;). Good luck to you!

Im wondering.. I know I should ask them...but they have a mandatory training for caregivers (50 hours) I was wondering if this is CNA training...

they call it "university"

heres the link... they said you have to show a skills demonstration at the end of the first 30 days so im wondering if thats what it is..

Congrats on getting the job! And there's a lot of Sunrise facilities here in Maryland. Before I got my current job, I went on a group interview for Sunrise too but they didn't have any openings at the time. But from what I remember the interviewer telling us, is that once you're hired you have to complete some sort of training. I dont think they required the caregivers to be licensed as a CNA, but things could be different at your facility. Once again congrats! Sunrise seems like a really great company.
