I have an interview tomorrow with the manager on a large level IV NICU! I'm excited and nervous. I actually shadowed one day on this unit way back in my peds rotation in nursing school but that was several years ago. Fingers crossed it goes well!
I think it went ok; I'd applied for the step-down nursery as well so they offered to let me shadow both units to see which I like better and I'll be doing that tonight!
Next week will be a peer interview which I am of course nervous about. Two of my go-to questions to ask are "What do you like best about working here?" and "What would your ideal candidate look like?" Any other recommendations for questions to ask in a peer interview?

What qualities do you want your ideal co-worker to have?
What would you change if anything on the unit?
Do you self schedule your shifts or is someone assigned to do it from staff?
What kind of educational opportunities does a NICU nurse get here or recommend to keep up with the latest standard of practice?
Best of luck and be yourself!

Good luck!!
Thanks AnnieOakly! I think it went pretty well, now I am just waiting to hear back!
I got an offer!!! Though the pay is the same as I was making when I started elsewhere as a new grad, which is kind of a bummer. But I loved the unit when I shadowed, and got on well with the peer team. I've had a great experience all around and this is a major referral center that sees just about everything so I think I am going to take it (though maybe ask if they could go up a little bit in pay lol). Plus, there's the fact that I've wanted to work NICU since I was a young teenager so I'd kick myself for passing it up!
Quick update: I start Monday. I'm pretty stoked! :) Have started reading some of the unit policies to get a little familiar with them and have some reviewing to do. Can't wait!

Hey hun, I got an interview on monday for NICU. This is my dream job and so it is an amazing opportunity for me. However I have never worked as a nicu nurse bfre. worked in adult areas. I was wondering if you can help with mocking questions and possible ideas for answers at all? :) thankyou so much in advance..
Hi there, sorry, I just saw this and I know it's too late, but for anyone else reading, the best preparation I can suggest is getting familiar with the hospital's mission and vision, preparing answers to common interview questions, dress professionally, and be yourself. There weren't a ton (or any, really) NICU-specific questions asked other than things like why NICU and why do you want to work here. Hope your interview went well, best of luck to you!
